Indian entertainment streamer JioHotstar is launching in the UK today, after striking a partnership with Sky.

Sky subscribers will be able to subscribe to JioHotstar directly via the platform or app. The partnership will make 160,000 hours of global South Asian TV and films, and 30,000 hours per year of new content across 19 languages, available for the first time.

JioHotstar, which has 550m active users and 100 TV channels, houses originals as Hunkkaar, Ali Baba Aur Chaalis Bhoot, Prince of Mollywood and Part Timers. It channels include Star Plus, Colors, Star Vijay, Asianet and Colors Gujarati – all of which will be available via Sky.

From 6 September, UK audiences can have their say in the outcome of the Indian versions of Big Brother, Bigg Boss, as well as having access to six editions of the show including Bigg Boss Hindi and Bigg Boss Tamil – with live feeds and live voting across every edition.

Each show will include subtitles and dubs across more than 12 Asian languages, including English, Hindi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi to make content more accessible across communities and generations.

Head of international business at JioStar Amit Malhotra said: “For decades, South Asian storytelling has been a cultural bridge between the UK and the communities that call it home. What is remarkable is how these stories have travelled across borders and generations, adapting to new audiences while retaining the cultural connections at their heart.

“Our ambition is not just to take content across borders, but to reimagine how audiences discover, experience and engage with it. We are creating a destination that makes South Asian storytelling more accessible, immersive and relevant for audiences in the UK, while bringing the scale and innovation we have built in India to a global audience.”

The streamer is also expanding in Canada and Singapore where audiences can sign up to either a quarterly or an annual subscription plan either via the App Store or Google Play Store across mobile and connected TVs.
