Red Bee Media has launched a completely IP and software based uncompressed playout system that will go live with several broadcasters in 2019.

First showcased at IBC 2018, Red Bee says the solution is the first in the world to use uncompressed video over IP, without requiring any dedicated infrastructure. It is being launched after two years of research and development by Red Bee.

The move comes as the broadcasting and media industry steadily moves towards IP and software-centric environments for playout deployment.

Current solutions rely on either compressed video feeds or hardware that is costly to acquire and maintain.

The new platform eliminates the need for any special purpose hardware or additional infrastructure that corrects issues in the video feeds.

Red Bee says the IP and Software Based Playout Deployment answers a need for flexibility, agility and cost reduction from Tier 1 broadcasters who want to maintain premium video quality with low latency.

“Previous IP centric playout deployments have relied on compressed video streams or bespoke hardware to make it work. This was not an option for either us or our customers. After dedicated R&D efforts we can now offer a solution with uncompressed video streams of the highest quality, combined with the flexible commercial models and agility that only an IP and Software based system can offer, all running on our newly deployed hybrid cloud”, says Red Bee’s chief portfolio officer for video services, David Travis.
