Prime Video has unveiled a raft of major training and development initiatives that include funding a year’s salary for an executive producer at six major indies and creating training specifically for freelancers who have been out of work for four months or more.

The streamer’s ReSkill UpSkill programme comprises free courses for individuals keen to explore opportunities outside of the traditional TV space, offering training in areas such as podcasting, digital, AI and project management.

It is already accepting applications for free webinars that run from 20 October to 21 November. They will run across five weeks, with new places becoming available on 23 and 28 October and 3 November. There are more than 60 one-day online courses available for up to 1,000 freelancers nationwide.

There are also a few days left to apply for an intensive three-month, in-person programme created specifically for 100 freelancers who have been out of work for more than a third of a year. Again, this is about training individuals to explore opportunities alongside TV roles.

In addition to this programme are several additions to the established Prime Video Pathway, which has invested £10m.

The most eye-catching is Prime Video’s offer of year-long step-up opportunities at major non-scripted production companies for six under-represented executive producers.

It will effectively pay a 12-month EP salary at each of Workerbee, Story Films, Studio Lambert, Optomen, Fremantle UK and Initial. Job ads from the indies in question are expected to begin going live shortly.

In a similar talent development vein, Prime Video will also sponsor the Wonder Women 2026 Mentoring Programme for 31 mid-career women, and the Wonder Women Live event held in Manchester during International Women’s Week in March 2026.

The ReSkill UpSkill programme has been developed in partnership with the National Film and Television School (NFTS).

Director Jon Wardle said: “Freelancers across the creative industries are continuing to navigate significant challenges, and this expanded commitment from Prime Video will offer timely and much-needed support.

“By combining the free accessible online training delivered by the NFTS, with intensive in-person guidance, the freelance workforce will be able to expand their skills, regain momentum and lay the foundations for sustainable long-term careers.”

Prime Video UK country manager Siena Pakington added: “Amazon is proud to play its part with a comprehensive free training and development programme to support a freelance community we know is struggling.

“We’re continuing to help upskill and reskill an industry facing unprecedented change while remaining trailblazers in apprenticeships that diversify our industry with proven opportunities for new entrants.”

The freelancer-focused programmes were developed following extensive research with the freelance community with more than 800 freelancers completing a skills survey.
