Louis Hernandez jr, CEO of parent company Black Dragon Capital, takes over

Andrew Cross GV CEO

Andrew Cross has left his role as CEO of Grass Valley, Broadcast Tech has confirmed.

Cross will continue as an advisor, with Louis Hernandez jr, CEO of parent company Black Dragon Capital, to take over until a new CEO is found. Hernandez jr used led Avid for five years before being fired for unspecified workplace misconduct in 2018, and also led Grass Valley when Cross’ predecessor, Tim Shoulders, left in November 2021 after four years in the role. Hernandez jr is executive chairman at Grass Valley.

Cross only arrived at Grass Valley earlier this year, and was formerly president of global R&D for Vizrt. He arrived with the aim of making Grass Valley a leader in the transition to software-based technologies.

Earlier this year, Grass Valley reported 24% growth year-on-year for 2021, with Hernandez jr saying: “We are determined to lead the digital transition of the industry for live events and news for the entertainment industry.

“Our unique combination of the most recognized products in the industry with leading cloud native applications are designed to provide our clients with the agility, flexibility and economic efficiency that is needed in today’s market. I’m very excited for the team to see such strong market acceptance.”
