Anna Mallett is stepping down from her role as chief executive of BBC Studios and Post Production (S&PP) to lead the broadcaster’s efforts to establish a commercial production arm.

Mallett originally joined BBC S&PP in 2012 and has led the BBC subsidiary through a period of upheaval in which Television Centre closed for redevelopment and its Charlotte Street post facility shut down just 12 months after first opening.

In her new role Mallett will work with BBC controller of fiction and entertainment Mark Freeland and factual and daytime controller Natalie Humphreys, who will provide input on preserving BBC Productions’ creative core.

A spokeswoman for BBC S&PP said plans for the future leadership of the company are being finalised and will be announced shortly.

In the meantime BBC S&PP’s chief operating officer David Conway will lead the business.
