Production hub to grow to 17 sound stages and 1m sq ft

Netflix Shepperton Studios

Pinewood Group has revealed a new long-term contract with Netflix that will see it double the size of its existing production hub at Shepperton Studios.

The agreement means that Shepperton Studios will total about one million sq ft of production accomodation, comprising of 17 sound stages, after the expansion.

Construction is already underway, and occupation is expected to begin in 2023.

Paul Golding, chairman of Pinewood Group, said: “Netflix’s commitment to expand at Shepperton is an endorsement of our operational expertise and enables us to continue our investment into this great studio.”

Anna Mallett, vice president of physical production in the UK & EMEA at Netflix, added: “The new contract with Shepperton highlights our commitment to investing in the UK creative industry and will provide a wealth of opportunities and production jobs, from entry level to heads of department. We’re excited to work with some of the best storytellers in the business to create amazing new films and series for our members.”

This comes as several major studios look to expand and take advantage of the production boom in the UK.
