Xytech has joined LiveU and DHD.audio in dropping out of IBC 2021 since the convention confirmed that it still plans to go ahead.

IBC released a statement on Tuesday reaffirming its intention to go ahead despite rising Covid-19 cases in the Netherlands. The country has reinstated some lockdown measures, such as early closing times for restaurants and bars, home gatherings limited to four people, and encouraging home working.

Cases are still rising in Holland, with the WHO reporting 20,252 new cases and 35 deaths on 17 November in the country of just over 17 million people - a record high.

LiveU cancelled its participation on Wednesday, citing ”the health and safety of our customers, partners and employees” as the reasoning behind its move, while DHD.Audio also cited health and safety when it pulled out on Tuesday.

Xytech Greg Dolan

Greg Dolan, chief commercial officer of Xytech, said: “The IBC Partnership Board’s decision to proceed with the IBC show is in contradiction with the stated commitment to health and safety not only to exhibitors and attendees, but to the general population.

“We are disappointed and confused to see common sense has not prevailed, and the Netherland’s officials and IBC Partnership Board has chosen this path. Xytech has returned to face-to-face engagements with customers and looks forward to an active 2022 schedule with partners invested in the health and safety of our staff, customers and supporting vendors.”
