Nicola Walker stars as Alice in Clerkenwell’s upcoming Disney+ comedy series Alice and Steve (w/t)

Disney+ has confirmed the order of ‘anti-romantic comedy’ Alice and Steve (w/t) from Clerkenwell Films.

The six-part series, which was revealed to be in development earlier this year, stars Nicola Walker and Jemaine Clement as the titular characters, whose friendship is rocked when middle-aged Steve starts dating Alice’s 26-year-old daughter Izzy.

While neither Alice nor Steve is a stranger to chaos and dubious decision-making, his relationship with Izzy turns their friendship upside down, threatening families, future and everything else.

Walker and Clement are joined in the cast by Joel Fry (Our Flag Means Death) as Alice’s husband Daniel, Yali Topol Margalith ( The Tattooist of Auschwitz) as Izzy, Tyrese Eaton-Dyce (Sherwood) as her son Dom and Marcia Warren (The Crown) as her mother Val. Eilidh Fisher (Dope Girls) and Ebony Aboagye round out the cast.

The series was ordered by Lee Mason, Disney’s executive director of scripted, EMEA who will exec produce alongside Petra Fried, Andy Baker and Ed Macdonald for BBC Studios-owned Clerkenwell and Sophie Goodhart (Sex Education) who also wrote the series. Fran du Pille serves as producer with Tom Kinglsey taking on directing duties.

Filming is currently underway on the production.

Mason promised a “riotous mix of betrayal and revenge in a world of beautifully messy and flawed characters”.

He added: “We’re thrilled to be bringing this twisted and hilarious story to Disney+ audiences – masterfully brought to life by British acting legend Nicola Walker, as you’ve never seen her before, alongside New Zealand’s comic royalty, Jemaine Clement.”
